Math based lesson using the book Mailing May

 

Objective:  The student will be able to use different combinations of coins to calculate the two different amounts that May could have used to get to her grandmother’s house.

297.01        Basic Arithmetic

298.01        Problem solving/reasoning

Discovery/Inquiry

 

Materials:

Paper/Pencil

Variety of Coins

Graph

 

 

Process:  The students will be divided into 4 groups.  Each group will go through the book, Mailing May, and find the two different dollar amounts.  The group will then work together to complete the graph of coin combinations.

 

Assessment:  The completed graph will be needed for the “bag” book.
