iTEACH History

Imparting Teachers with Expertise, Appreciation and Comprehension in History

The iTEACH  History project aims to increase teacher knowledge while updating, expanding and diversifying the instructional methods they use.  The rationale is that students will achieve more in history if improved teaching deepens their appreciation and understanding of the subject.

Five rural Idaho school districts -- Grangeville, Prairie of  Cottonwood, Kamiah, Highland of Craigmont, and Nezperce -- are partnering with the University of Idaho, Lewis Clark State College, the Historical Museum at St. Gertrude, the historical societies of Idaho and Lewis counties, the Grangeville Cooperative Network of Libraries to implement this federal Teaching American History grant.

Fifty-seven teachers from sixteen schools in the five districts are involved in ongoing and intense professional development.  They have participated in several one-day workshops on topics ranging from Lewis and Clark in Idaho to the use of rock-and-roll in teaching history as well as week-long summer sessions.
