Subject Area:  Language Arts/Art
Grade Level:    K-3 **(Could be a K-12 with adaptations)

Standards Addressed:
Cause and Effect 680.03.d
Literary Devices 680.02.b

Lesson objectives:
The students will create a mural of a legend that details the characters and setting in the beginning, middle and end of the story.

Materials:
Art supplies-markers, color crayons, paint, chalks, etc...
Long sheet of white paper
Pencils
Adequate space to work 

Procedure:  
1. Show various Indian artwork that depicts scenes from Native American legends and discuss detail of artwork.
2. Teacher will break up groups into teams of three.
3. Each group will be assigned a specific section of the story. (Beginning, Middle or End) 
4. Groups need to get together and decide on the scene that will be portrayed.
5. Students will recreate the characters, the setting and a scene that coincides with that particular section of the story. **Sketch first with pencil. 
6. When mural is complete display somewhere with the words of entire story or invite classes to view and share in a retelling.


Evaluation:
Evaluate students' ability to participate successfully and include all the necessary story elements.
