Camas Prairie Rail Road Trestles
These trestles can be seen in several places from U.S. Highway 95 between Lewiston and Grangeville, Idaho. As the sign says the trestle pictured on the left, is 1500 feet long and 296 feet high and stretches across the upper section of Lawyers Creek. You can read more about these trestles in the book Mailing May written by Michael O. Tunnell. Mailing May tells the story of Charlotte May Pierstorff, a five-year-old girl from Grangeville, Idaho who rode the train to Lewiston to visit her grandmother in 1914. Read the story to find out how May's parents managed to send her on the train, as the price of a ticket was equal to a day's pay. The trestles along the Camas Prairie Railroad have also been featured in several movies in past years. Back to Field Trip
